FAQ's
Is this confidential? Will IChemE or my employer know I have contacted you?

We take confidentiality seriously. We won’t share your information with third parties without informing you first. Please see our privacy policy for more information.

Although we work closely with IChemE, the Chemical Engineers Benevolent Fund is a separate charity with its own board of trustees. All requests are stored on separate systems, only accessible by the staff handling your request. We do not share information with employers.

I don’t live in the UK. Can you still support me?

Yes! If you or a close family member is a chemical engineer, we can support you, no matter where you live in the world. We have a long history of assisting people globally.

Are grants means-tested?

Yes, we assess your application based on your household’s income, expenditure, and assets.
Assets include savings, stocks, shares, ISAs, and equity in properties besides your main residence. We typically don’t award grants if your household capital exceeds £15,000, except in exceptional circumstances such as significant or long-term health needs. If you’re unsure if this applies to you, please get in touch.

Need help with something not listed?

If your situation doesn’t fit the grants mentioned, please contact us. We’ll explore how we can help you, whether that’s through one of our other services or guide you to another organisation.

We don’t provide grants to assist with:
* Professional advice fees, such as the costs of legal advice and litigation, or financial advice
* Fines and penalty fees
* Business costs
* Non-priority debt, such as credit cards and unsecured loans
* Private education costs, in countries where state-provided education is available
* Private medical treatment where state provision is accessible, such as the NHS
* Bursaries or scholarships to enter higher education
* Ongoing costs of higher education except in cases of significant hardship
* Donations or grants to other charities and organisations
* Membership fees, such as for IChemE

Do you provide loans?

No, we no longer offer loans. We used to provide them historically, but this service is no longer available.
